Diesol in water tank !!

A friend of mine inadvertently put about 20 litres of diesol in 1 of his water tanks- (the fillers were side by side)..... anyone got any ideas I can relate to him to rectify the situation.....
The tanks (500 l)are built in fibreglass so removing them isnt an option......there is an inspection port which gives limited access to half of the tank...he has drained the tank by leaving the tap on...and refilled with water..however I am guessing this will have made the situation worse as it will have spread the film right through the tank and through the tap...
any helpful suggestions appreciated.....

Detergent, detergent, detergent and then it still might not work! Now I know why my fuel filler and water filler take different size keys to open.

Cut a hole in the tank side. Insert a plasticized fabric water tank of similar dimensions and plumb it in. You're not likely to ever get all the diesel smell/flavor out of a fiberglass tank.

Re: Diesol in water tank !!

On the U.S.S. Saratoga the fresh water tasted mildly of fuel (jet fuel, I thought, but maybe fuel oil). The solution was to drink coffee or red fruit punch (AKA bug juice), never plain water! To the ship's credit, the galley made amazing fresh bread and cinnamon rolls, so all was forgiven.

Anyway, how about one of those fuel-eating enzyme cleaners? They remove diesel fuel stains from clothes, concrete, boat bilges, and so forth. They're supposed to be non-toxic.

Dawn dish soap, wash in hot water then rinse with cold. After four or so cleanouts it should take care of taste, as I am assuming it just happened and has not sat long

Several washes with Dawn and fresh water...then, pour a bottle of rum in the water. Drink-up water tasting rum (high alcohol content - 40%)! Problem solved! <shorry offisher, hic...didn't know had fire-water in my tank...hic!> Mauritz

Re: Diesol in water tank !!

my guess is ...dont put too much detergent in -as you will want to hose round and use some pressure to try and get it off the sides of the tank..last think you want is a bubble bath!!! so just enough to help break down without causing too many bubbles..?
