Spartan Packing Gland ?

My packing gland (stuffing box) is not the standard arrangement with flats that tighten with normal packing gland wrenches, but looks like a Spartan box. Is the Spartan design unique to Spartan? Can these type wrences be bought from others?

Is yours the type with notches all the way around? I have a Spartan gland and while the owner's manual and their catalogue say you can put a flathead screwdriver in one of the notches and rap it with a mallet, I didn't have much luck with that procedure. After a week of struggling to no avail to get my packing glad apart (it was pretty neglected when I bought the boat), I broke down and paid the $50 bucks for the wrenches from Spartan. Once they arrived it took all of 5 seconds to free the gland. They are expensive but worth it. I couldn't find wrenches that would work anywhere else.

I've used standard pipe wrenches and strap wrenches on Spartan Stuffing Box Nuts.

Yes, notches all the way around. Looks just like the ones on Sparton's web site. Just wanted to make sure it was truly a Sparton before ordering the expensive wrenches. Wasn't sure if this design is Sparton only.
