Re: Sailing With Cancer

Oh man this hits hard. I just gave everyone a heads-up over on Sailnet (thanks Ralph).

God rest your soul John. You had a big impact on me brother. I'll miss you.

Re: Sailing With Cancer

I like your attitude. I admire you for it. My husband was diagnosed with a non-curable cancer 10 years ago. It has come back 3 times. We are taking our 3 kids on a year long cruise starting this summer. We want to live the dream now, with them! We have a window of opportunity, and we are taking it! Maybe we'll see you out there. Best of luck, happy sailing and keep up the positive attitude! It is inspiring to us all!

Safe harbour, clear skies and warm winds at your back always, John.

I weep for Melanie, and pray for her during this sad time.

Re: Sailing With Cancer

Just caught this news. John and I had a few personal messages when I was recovering from my health issues in 2008/09. He truly understood and was very encouraging. He knew the true meaning of living in the hear and now. I am deeply saddened by the news and will keep his love of adventure in my heart. Fair winds John

Re: Sailing With Cancer

John was a big-hearted guy, and I enjoyed his company here on CF. If his two attempts to sail from Panama to Oahu had gone as planned, he and Mel would have arrived while I was there. I was hoping greet him in Kaneohe Bay and buy him a beer or two. I'm sad that it didn't happen.

What a great inspiration. He lived life on his terms. Truly a blessed soul. May he watch over us all as we traverse the seas.

So sorry to hear this. I never had the opportunity to meet him, but I feel that I knew him through reading his many posts. My condolences to all who were close to him. pete

Re: Sailing With Cancer

I hope Melanie can take some comfort from being with John during his final journey. and that others (including those who never met him in person) thought well enough of the man to offer their condolences. Not everyone gets that.

Sad news, indeed. But had he not accomplished as much as he had hoped to, it would be sadder.

So sad... RIP John. I remember when I first met him in Green Cove Springs at the Cruisers Forum get-together a couple of years ago. He opened up his boat and his heart to all of us that day. You'll be missed.

We know this is a difficult time for her; however, if it is any consolation, she must know that John was very much admired and respected, and will be sincerely missed, by all his friends aboard the CruisersForum.

May she find the strength and courage to get through the days ahead, and know that our thoughts and prayers will be with her.
