So why was his posting not qualified as an argument, but as a statement/remark.

I am confused.

A statement declares what you believe, and an argument explains why you (& I should) believe as you do.

As I recall, this poor misguided youth (!!!!) was captured in Somalian waters and accordingly, international law specifies that the USA had no jurisdiction. Frankly, I see this as another solid argument in favour of private security forces: they can capture the bad guys without worrying about sullying the image of the US (or any other country whose navy does the same) for violating international law.

Should we care about internation law? Absolutely. Even from a purely practical perspective, it makes it very difficult for one's country to call upon the UN to sanction other nations for their actions, when your own nation does not respect international law. If Somalia had a functional central government, I would be opposed to the US actions; however, as I said in an earlier post, it is arguably not a violation of the rule of law to the extent that Somalia is a lawless society without a functioninggovernment.

Thats exactly why it was foolish for our convoy to go inside Yemeni Territorial waters along the Gulf of Aden.

Of course no one listened to me!

'Very sorry'
During Muse's trial in a federal court in Manhattan, prosecutors described him as a ringleader of a gang of four pirates who seized the Maersk Alabama some 450km (280 miles) off the coast of Somalia.
Court documents said Muse was the first to board the vessel, firing his AK-47 assault rifle at Captain Richard Phillips.
On Tuesday, Muse said through an interpreter: "I am very, very sorry about what we did. All of this was about the problems in Somalia."

Sorry! He is sorry indeed. This won't stop untell ground forces deal with the sorce.
