Boarding must have been a weird and upsetting expeience.
Thanks so much for your report.

I didn't board, I had the watch and stayed on our bridge while the C/M and an AB boarded. It was troubling for my bridge team as we identified the sailboat from several miles off and as we made our approach it was very apparent to us that this was not a good situation. We have 33 scientists aboard and have been out to sea for 40 days now, word got out quickly that something unusual was going on and soon the rails were manned by curious onlookers who thought that this was "neat", but of course the implications quickly dawned on everyone and we had a very somber and reflective dinner that night.

Our C/M has been working with his log book and has worked back that the boat drifted an average of 5nm a day from the last recorded position on a cmg as expected from the prevailing winds.

Just to pass on to everyone here, the Slovenian Embassy has gotten in touch with us and arrangements are made to transfer the recovered logbooks/personal goods of Jure Sterk to his son via the Australian Capital. Thanks to everyone who helped us out here and at some of the other websites and blogs we visited for information.

Thank you, hookahjoe, for closing the loop, and for making sure the family will have something from the boat to remember him by.
