Today, the man who called himself Rockefeller was convicted of kidnapping. From the AP story running in the New York Times:

" ‘Rockefeller’ Convicted of Kidnapping

"By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

"Published: June 12, 2009

"Filed at 1:44 p.m. ET

"BOSTON (AP) -- A German man who called himself Clark Rockefeller and spun fantastic stories about himself during three decades in the United States was convicted Friday of kidnapping his 7-year-old daughter."

For the rest of the story, go to:

Maybe I'm being overly sensitive (it must be a new Daddy thing), but why is it that in these sorts of stories it's always the default setting that the kids' natural place MUST be with the mother? They story is that she was reunited with her mother, not that she was taken away from her father.

Now, I'm not familiar with this case (I'll confess I've not read the article.....I guess I'm speaking more generally than this particular case), but I can conceive of all sorts of very legit reasons to take off with your kid. What if mom's a freak, or abusive? The way courts work a lot of places, there is a large bias against dad's getting custody (or at least that's my perception.....I'm no lawyer). After all, men are abusive, women aren't right? Oh wait.....

I'm probably knee-jerking without cause here, but I just find it disturbing.
