Need Volvo Part

I have a model 2003b 28 hp 3 cyl Volvo diesels with sail drives. A sail drive cratered in the Great Dismal Swamp a couple of weeks ago and I have struggled to find parts. The sail drive is now back together and I could launch the boat if I could find one more measly part. It is the splined flange that attaches with the flywheel to the engine. That spline mates with the sail drive input shaft. The spline on mine is completely shot.

It is back ordered and no dealer so far has any stock.

It used to be called a companion flange part number 840592 and now called a mounting flange part number 3581117. While I prefer new a serviceable used part is acceptable.

This hardened still plate is about 3 3/8” OD with 8 holes approx 7/16” id on a bolt circle of about 2 ½”. 20 tooth straight cut female spline.

Does anyone have an old engine laying around and could salvage a part for me? I think the same flange is used on model 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2003T engines.

Are there any remnants of the splines?

Pat, the splines were pretty well gone. I did find one of the new ones in stock at a marina in New York and now have it in my hot little hand.

The new design doesn't bolt directly to the fly wheel. Instead, 8 soc-head cap screws hold flywheel on and non metallic sleeves fit over their heads. The flange holes are counter bored to accept these sleeves, who's function seems to be to absorb shock and or vibration. Judging from the shape of the splines on my old unit, this is a much needed redesign.

I'd keep a spare of the redesign. THat now sounds like it's designed to shear off.
