Largest tender for Davits on 2011+ Lagoon 500's

Would like to know what are the largest tenders that the davits on a '11 Lagoon 500 can handle. Weight or what boat are you carrying. Would like to get a center console dinghy with a 40hp motor, but want to make sure it won't overlode anything.

Has anyone towed a 16-20' fishing boat behind their catamaran? I see motor yachts doing it all the time but never seen a sailboat do it.

Also need to watch for length of outboard's skeg .... if it hangs too low, it can get hit by waves. If you have motor tilted up, a long leg will hit boat hull. I have failed on both fronts !

Re: Largest tender for Davits on 2011+ Lagoon 500's

The largest that I could fit on my 500 was a Ocean Master 3.9 by Highfield. This is an alumunium hull tender with a center counsel. If there had been one available I would have preferred an AB alumunium tender rather than a Highfield as I think they are better finished but the Highfield is OK. I put a 50 hp Honda on it which I would NOT suggest. Use the 40 hp Yamaha as it can be serviced anywhere.

I do not think that there is any large tender in fiberglass that will work with the capacity of the davits. Fiberglass is simply much too heavy if you go as large as possible. I think the capacity is about 66o pounds. With motor, fuel, toys and tender.a fiberglass tender you could be way over the weight limit.
Be sure to upgrade your lines to poly covered spectra and use shackles to connect the lifting lines to the tender. Make sure your harness in the tender is spectra also. Do not use the clips provided by Lagoon as they are prone to failure if the tender fills with water from a following sea or if it collects a lot of rain water. Use very strong shackles to attach the lines to the lifting harness. The factory provided clips bend and the tender will be lost or damaged. I know as it cost $22,000 to replace a tender lost due to weak clips.

I also had an extra set of harnesses made to go over the davits and to connect to the lifting straps in addition to the shackles. I have doubled or tripled the holding capacity of the factory system as it is totally inadequate.

I hope this helps.

Spirited Ripple 4.2 tender should be easy to handle. Hull in foam only weighs 85kg and performes with a 40hp.
