need to replace gps antenna to old west marine ais-1000

can anyone help me understand what available gps antenna will work with a 2009 west marine ais-1000 class b transceiver?

my present system still works, but the female treaded fitting part of the gps antenna broke and is loosely strapped in place with a hose clamp.

i have tried west marine, but they no longer support their product

below are the limited specs i have from the manual

thanks,
tim

Re: need to replace gps antenna to old west marine ais-1000

You’ve included the specs for the AIS itself. Assuming that the specs actually mean what they seem to say, the GPS receiver is internal to the AIS box. The external antenna is just an antenna. If that’s true, then any GPS antenna with the correct connector should work.

However, the above makes a whole bunch of assumptions without any supporting facts. If the GPS antenna is physically broken, you might be able to open it enough to check that there’s nothing electrical inside, ie no printed circuit board with components. That can confirm that it just an antenna.

Or maybe WM will tell you who made it and you can ask them. Or try one of the big ham radio stores. They might have remote GPS antennas for use with APRS installations.

Or maybe you can just glue the connector back onto the case. That’s ugly, but if it works for a while .....

Finally, it may just be time for a new AIS. Mine is an old ACR unit, also unsupported but still working, so I know how you feel.
