Anyone been in in Martinique for Carnivale?

We are chartering a boat in Martinique starting March 1 and just found out it is Carnivale. Are most of the festivities in Fort de France? How crazy is it?

Not our first time to the island, just our first Carnivale.

Re: Anyone been in in Martinique for Carnivale?

It can get pretty frenetic, and not all, but most celebrations are in Fort de France. Martinique's carnival festivities commence on the first Sunday after the Epiphany and reach their climax on Shrove Tuesday.

In 2019 these 5 days of celebration are from Saturday 02 to Wednesday 06 March. During the carnival the daily life of Martinique comes to a stand still. Sunday sees processions throughout the island. Bands, parties, and parades fill the streets of villages across Martinique. Much of the action is centred in the Carnival hub of Fort de France, but the capital city by no means has the market cornered on celebrations. At the celebration’s end the island enters the period of Lent, that leads up to Easter.
Enjoy!

Cool! Do you think restaurants will be open Sunday or should we cook dinner aboard the boat?
