But I'm a rational enough person to suspect that Beneteau would never have become the largest boat manufacturer in the world if they built yachts that "couldn't withstand anything close to water without all the glue and screws coming apart."

Is it too much to ask for rational discourse here?

From what I've seen lately its more like CF means Computor Forum.... there's been more threads on Windows/Mac etc lately than on sailing and boats....

Yes I would. There is no room to maneuver around it, and I had a difficult time getting around it just to get inside the cabin. I cannot imagine moving forward to grab a sheet or change without el monkey landing in the bay in a slight uplift.

Why not? How does BIG equate to quality? We could equally attribute it to either a ton of marketing or cheap manufactured quality for mass distribution.

In the last 6 months, you've ranted and raved about every model of every boat ever built, Beneteau more than once.......you stand against them until the flavor of the forum changes and then you change with it,,
you might, being in San Francisco, with one of the largest sailing venues in the world, start crewing on some of these boats and come back with honest first hand experance and not just hear-say....
Many clubs around the bay run mid-winters and most all boats are looking for additional people to crew...
Turn the lap-top off and get out on the water and gain some experance...

Thank you Randy for your concern and well voiced advice. I've had my fill of crewing for sure too much. I wish I had the time to take that measure again for my own survey - the monkey boat list is getting quite short. But alas, I have many SaltyMonkey responsibilities at the moment to break away from this winter - some that will put me closer to that boatsky of my dream$$$! Perhaps in the spring when the clouds part and SaltyMonkey will see the sun. But then again I may be back east in Annapolis again.

However, if you need your boat washed and polished, your head cleaned, and your keel bolts tightened when you are up this way again, I will of course oblige. Why? Because I am SaltyMonkey - the monkey of the sea.

Diesel mechanic repair class is next...

I sail a 343 Beneteau (35.5') about 1,000 miles/year. The boat is a little tender at 15 kts of wind but sails well in 30kts with the main furled in the mast and has never been an issue. The entire cabin sole is removable to the outside hull, which I have not seen in many production boats. The cockpit wheel swings to the port when not needed, the larger boats have twin helms. It points well and seems to be quicker then most of the production in my area. The starboard lazzerette is quite large for storage and the rear bunk is huge. The interior layout is very usable and spacious.

Been a bit of Woo waved around recently (I guess the chance to use dead folks as an opportunity to spout *****, with little chance of being called up on, is a temptation too hard to resist ) - so walkin' on bread smoking a fish as a subject would fit in well

Just thought i'd be another one to add nothing to this thread. A simple question, basicaly 'what do the different Benny models mean?' has resulted in FIVE pages of pro-anti Benny/plastic/iron keels/in mast furling/tankage/performance/quilty/style/production boats/etc, etc.
