Question Want AIS on my Jeanneau; Raymarine AIS700 or Veper XB-8000?

Want AIS on my Jeanneau; Raymarine AIS700 or Veper XB-8000?

I'm pretty much down to those 2 unless you can really recommend something different.

I have an older Raymarine C90w but will hope to upgrade to an Axiom Pro really soon.

Thanks for any info!!

The AIS700 unit looks like a good one.
If you plan to use a Raymarine chartplotter, I'd recommend the Raymarine AIS unit too.

Vesper would be my recommendation if going to a non Raymarime chart plotter.

The ray marine is based on the SRT module. Good product.

I had the 8000 connected to a raymarine mfd and it worked great. Getting your networked streamed via wifi and the anchor alarm are great features on the 8000 that the 700 doesn’t have.

I did the same for a friend recently. There is a direct comparison here:

May not be a current issue but Vesper Marine can reprogram the MMSI number either on the boat or remotely. Raymarine cannot.

Do your bit and go Vesper, you may want to upgrade or sell the boat at some point in the future.

Vesper! Whatever your electronics suite, having an XB-8000 with WiFi will allow tablets, laptops, anything to connect to the network and share the data. Offshore, you can stand watch with just a tablet, versus having to run the MFD.

AND it has an anchor alarm, AND the software can be updated off the cell phone app.

We don’t have a single complaint about the XB-8000. Draws less than an amp, we leave it on all the time for the anchor watch function.

This is a great chart. Notably, the Raymarine doesn't have wifi, and the Vesper isn't SOTDMA. But others on the list have both of those features.

If installing a new AIS unit I would only consider the 5-watt SOTDMA units, not the 2-watt CSTDMA ones. As much ad I like the Vesper gear, they don't offer a 5 watt unit that is stand alone right now.
Lots of choices for 5 watt unitsm even though most of them are just relabeling of the SRT hardware.
