I think you are formatting them incorrectly. For your example you should use 35 10.89 S in the latitude box and 174 07.145 E in the longitude box.

No, they are in different formats. But you can convert them with the GPS Utility Program.

I agree that a tutorial on setting up the GPS would be useful and will put that on my TO DO list. (Presently two-blocked on making charts and anchorages)

Thanks, Paul. A good suggestion for a future revision. There are no NOAA charts for SE Asia which is where I've been for many years. But will give this some thought.

Information on the Chart Downloader plugin seems to be missing from the OpenCPN Help file.
