Thank you for your assistance, I have spent some time downloading everything I thought may be of use and with some trial and error I have much better charts for the Pacific Islands now.
I am very pleased/happy that I will be able to continue using openCPN during our upcoming adventure.

Cheers

Just keep watching the forum for the announcement - we are planning a French Polynesia oeSENC set at o-charts.org
About 175 charts.

Re: OpenCPN General

Short version of the answer is: "No."

Furuno 1971F says on it's product homepage (https://www.furunousa.com/en/products/GP1971F) that "The Chart Plotter utilizes full-featured Navionics or C-Map 4D charts.". Neither of those is supported in OpenCPN. The conclusion is that there are no charts that would be usable both by OpenCPN and Furuno 1971F.

Hi, I have managed to transfer my Nimble Navigator CM93 charts onto OpenCPN but do not get the same amount of detail as I did on the Nimble program.. for example it used to show the whole of the Kiel Canal and marinas along the way with depths, now I don't even get the canal.
Old laptops crashed along with the program so using new one with OpenCPN.
Any ideas.??? preferably in Dino-speak, total Luddite here..

Have you updated the entire database yet? This creates the SENC files that are directly used by OpenCPN.

Toolbar Options > Charts > Check Force full database rebuild.
Hope that helps.

Suggest reading the manual a little to get familiar, so you can do searches to get answers. Also refer to the FAQ page.

What you say is explicitly true but using the Sat2Chart, SasPlanet and Google Earth Pro programs you can create mbtiles charts from both Navionics and CMap 4D sources for use with OpenCPN. You can create sat charts overlaid with the depth information from both sources as well. This is an example of one I created for Halsey Harbor in the Philippines.

Re: OpenCPN General

I have what I hope is a simple question. I have just installed OpenCPN from the Ubuntu PPA to a X86-64 PC with Ubuntu 21.10 and things look reasonably good.

However, I want the o-charts plugin but the plugin manager (both Master and Beta) only shows 4 plugins (WMM, Chart downloader, Gribs, Dashboard).

How can I download the o-charts plugin or get it and other plugins to show in the plugin manager?

Thanks,
David

Re: OpenCPN General

David....
By policy, OpenCPN is only fully supported on Ubuntu LTS versions. The latest LTS is Jammy, 22.04. O-charts_pi is available for that version.

Re: OpenCPN General

Update worked so all good now with o-charts and OpenCPN on Ubuntu.

I also want to run on a Samsung tablet. Installs and works fine but no sign of o-charts plugin. Is this another case where OpenCPN won't work on older versions (Android 6.0.1)?

Re: OpenCPN General

Please ignore above post. I had not realised there are two Android versions. Have now installed the paid one and the plugin is there.

Re: OpenCPN General

Dave,

I am noticing that display operations with 5.6.2 really need to have OpenGL enabled or zoom and pan takes ages. Have you noticed this? I have run "Force Full Database rebuild" and then "Prepare All ENC Charts" which took a very long time because I have many charts. However it did not really complete because it froze at the end. I then reopened and was asked to go into safe mode disabling all plugins.

I will try this again later tonight.

Re: OpenCPN General

Rick...
Other than testing, or use with very old, tired systems, there is really no reason to run with OpenGL disabled. Certainly, non-GL mode has gotten very little attention recently. I expect that soon (next version?) OpenGL will become a runtime requirement.
