Ha, when I was in college, someone drafted the idea of a river race.....no boat could be used, the craft had to be handmade, so myself and several other student concocted a catamaran made from 45...

Why fly into Key West ???

Fly into Marathon, you can walk to the Home Depot from the airport. Boot Key harbor is just around the corner, I'm pretty certain you could assembly your craft there....

The ideas floating around here are getting better and better.

I like the air mattress idea, you could build a simple 2x8 frame around it, cover it with plywood, and you'd have your raft at 1/10...

I like that idea, the liferaft is certainly a good option. I recently had to give one away, as it was too old to be serviced anymore, but still serviceable and useable for an expedition like this.

Home Depot sells lumber, but I don't think you'll find inner tubes there. Few cars have inner tubes these days, in fact, I can't think of...
