Re: from rio dulce to trinidad

Well, simply...don't. Sail Northerly across to the BVIs and then take the sleigh ride south...save time, fuel patience and energy. The direct route is worse than heading North along the West Coast...

Re: How to tie a Diamond Knot

You guys, what a bunch of palabora! there are a half dozen easier, faster and very dependable alternatives that can be broken and untied faster as well. Why all the techno spider webs?

Re: Forced to give up sailing

Depends upon why you sail...if you are over your head in size and expense, you are likely happy to curtail or at least move down to a day sailor. If you are truly exhausted from years of ocean...

Re: Anyone out there like blue water passages?

It is very much about the personal psychological make-up of the skipper and crew. I have been around the planet nearly twice and all the major oceans and coastal stretches and find that after the...

Re: Pulling The Engine On A Center Cockpit

Maybe odd but relatively painless, I watched a crew of mechanics slide the engine forward on a small section beam held up with "A" braces with a chain cradle and dolly wheels on the top f the beam...

A shudder in neutral/idle

During a recent sail delivery of a 2003 Jeanneau 39 Odyssey I experienced a continuous shudder in neutral at idle that did not seem to come from the engine itself but rather the transmission. The...

Re: Lagoon 42 from France to Florida - short notice

Hania,

To pay your way and risk hurricane season, someone is playing you...I think the delivery captain. Check to see if they wear an eye patch and have any teeth left in their head, wobble on a...

After market cutter rig installation on 1995 Hylas 46 455

I am seeking to purchase a lightly used 1995 Hylas 46 455 that currently is set up as a sloop rig. I want to determine whether a conversion to a cutter rig is possible, practical (cost/time/effort)...

Re: Moving from San Diego to Florida.....

I have sailed both coasts for many years with with a wide variety monohuls of all sizes and drafts. I can assure you that a 7'+ draft is a serious challenge in the ICW and elsewhere back East. Sell...

Re: Sleep Science and Watch Keeping Schedules

Many very good comments here. You must be kidding with the schedule thing, really. I've been around the planet twice with two and three persons ad nauseum. I have always been a strong proponent...

Re: Can I exclusively motor a sailboat

Motor out about two miles in light wind...turn on your sails and turn off the engine...listen carefully...you are sailing, good, bad or indifferent. Douse the sails, turn on the engine and repeat:-)...

Re: Pros/cons of center cockpit

If you are a committed long time ocean sailor and live aboard you will eventually favor a CC boat. For casual coastal sailing you will likely prefer a stern cockpit. The important differences are...

Re: Would you go for this 65 footer?

Kenomac is apparently referring to a smaller monohul, not a Cat, a different fish by any other name, starting with a slip that is as wide as his boat is long. There is no fair comparison between the...

Re: Would you go for this 65 footer?

Any way you stack it, the 67 foot cat bought for cash is going to represent something north of $85,000 per year just sitting still and over $200,000 per year with just three months of active...
