Re: Once and for all, does the gel coat under the antifoul keep the water out or not?
If in doubt if it is polyester (most likely) or epoxy (not likely) then sand the gelcoat and smell it. Polyester has a sweet smell. |

Re: Why use bottom paint when you can scrape?
Nothing wrong with copper. Besides it is the best legal option to use in a bottom paint to help prevent fouling. Yes, you can use products that do not use copper but they will be far less effective. |

Re: Epoxied Mat over Polyester Hull
There have been a few questions asked about what type of "mat" but I did not see an answer. There are Silane binders used with Chopped Strand Mat that make it unsuited for use with epoxy but... |

Re: Swing keel on a 42-50 footer
The inside of the slot where the keel lives will gather growth and not on impossible to get at but you cannot get in there to antifoul. I have experienced this on a yacht I had once. |

Re: Fiberglass Matt / Cloth to use for structural bulkhead rebuild?
One of the main issues with CSM is that it uses a silane treatment as a binder and it is therefor very, very difficult to wet out with epoxy. Polyester is OK though. |

Re: How do I loosen the water strainer?
It is a Vetus and they are pigs when it comes to getting the lid unscrewed. Removing the whole unit I found the best option and take it to a workshop if you can. I smeared the rubber O ring and it... |

Re: Which engine for my dinghy?
9.9 and 15 hp are the same engine but with different exhaust tubes. The 9.9 as I recall was to evade the tax issue which became applicable at 10hp. |
