Re: Pulled the trigger on the cheapest LiFePO4 batteries anywhere. And I have a quest

Looking through the website of the battery seller, nowhere could I find the capacity of the BMS. In fact the only reference was on the side of the battery which stated that it had an internal BMS. I...

Re: Insurance for Bahamas, Caribbean?

Catch 22. It is hard to get insurance in the Eastern Caribbean unless your boat is worth at least half a million dollars and is less than 20 years old. However, most marinas now require at least...

I tend to agree with Goodxcharly. However my 6 AGM 6 volt golf cart size batteries are at the end of their life. My research into LiFePo4 battery's are prompting me go in that direction form my house...

Re: What's The Strangest Thing Your Anchor Picked Up?

I was wondering why I was dragging when I never do. When pulling up the 20Kg Delta, I found a beer can on the tip.

Re: Caribbean locations w/ most dinghy docks

In Martinique most of the town docks are quite high and being the Caribbean, the ladders are often broken. St. Anne and St. Pierre are for the nimble. I hear that there is no anchoring now at Grande...

Re: Sailing and alcohol

Royal Canadian Navy ended rum tots in 1972. After that they had beer machines. According to a buddy who was a navy diver there was no restriction, but you were in deep dodo if you were found drunk.

Re: one or 2 burner stove...

I stand corrected. I guess I was thinking of CNG which is good but not very practical in most areas because of supply issues

Re: one or 2 burner stove...

I am surprised no one has mention butane. If you are not doing a lot of cooking a single burner portable stove is between $20 and $30. Although it does not have quite the heating power of propane, it...

Re: Do-dads, gizmos, and things that make life aboard easier

A winchrite is a poor mans power winch. It is a battery powered winch handle That helps an old guy really well. It is really handy since you can use it on any of your winches. I find that a charge...

Re: RANT Canadian vessel name RANT

My problem wasn't the name but measurement for Transport Canada. Twelve years ago catamarans were not covered by a measurement formula or builders records. A catamaran had to be measured the same as...

Re: Economical Water tank treatment other than bleach?

I use about 2ozs. of bleach for 65 gallons of water. I use a Brita filter jug which gets rid of any smell or taste. Keep it in the fridge and now you have cold fresh water.

Re: AMEL - Death of the Cruising Ketch ?

I think you will always see a few new ketches. Especially in the megayacht size. There are some really beautiful ones in the Caribbean. And unlike the sloops which have a ridiculous sized sail plan,...

Re: How Do You Carry Your Dink on Passages- Catamarans

Voyage catamarans have a crane from the boom which lifts the dinghy onto the beam crossing the rear of the boat. It sits in chocks and tied down. I take out the drain plug but have never had water...

Re: Canada Radio Station License

Yes I still have my original operators licence. I took the course from the Power Squadron I believe in 1968. The paper certificate is still hanging in although a little tattered around the edges.

Re: Just got my MMSI and RR from the FCC. I'm excited!

Back in the early 70's a restricted radio operators licence was required in Canada for a VHF as well as a station licence (VX9306). Both requirements were dropped. I still have that tattered piece of...

Re: Seeking advice: if you had $250k to spend on a cat, which one would you get?

I went back to the original post which stated that the goal was coastal cruising along the SE coast and Florida. This means shallow water ability and a mast under 65 feet. I think the Gemini fits...
