Re: Just say NO to Prop Speed!

There is nothing better than Propspeed. The Rustoleum product is better than nothing, but not by much.

Re: Painting Yanmar saildrive

100% wrong. The entire aluminum bolt mounting surface is in contact with the leg.

Re: Painting Yanmar saildrive

Page 17 has prop installation instructions. And I find nothing anywhere regarding painting the the leg under where the anode is fitted.

Re: Zpc-3 acorn zinc

Why stick with an antiquated and hard to find anode? Why not go with a typical prop nut anode setup?

Re: Why use bottom paint when you can scrape?

I understood you. I'm saying that anti fouling paint does not prevent blistering because you inferred that leaving a bottom unpainted could lead to delamination and osmosis. But yes, that is why you...

Re: Why use bottom paint when you can scrape?

Yes. Anti fouling paint is porous to water- in fact that's how it works.

Re: Why use bottom paint when you can scrape?

Bottom paint doesn't protect from osmosis

Re: Why use bottom paint when you can scrape?

Washington put the brakes on their copper ban because new science indicates that the level of copper loading seen in boat basins and marinas isn't nearly as harmful as initially believed. They're...

Re: Tattoos for Sailors - Good or bad?

I started getting ink when I was in my mid-fifties. I currently have eight pieces and every single one of them has meaning to me, whether it was a tribute to my late father or related to my work or a...

Re: Marinas using cameras for rules enforcement

I work in several dozen marinas on a regular basis and I can't think of one that doesn't have security cameras installed. I have no problem with it. In fact, last year a fellow marine service...

Re: Ultrasonic Hull Shield

I would be satisfied with a much simple and less expensive comparison test. Two similar boats in similar locations in a moderate or high fouling saltwater marina (Northern Europe, the UK, PNW and US...

Re: Ultrasonic Hull Shield

My personal, professional experience with these devices is that they do not perform as advertised. So I'm just asking for the people who sell them to provide some factual evidence to the contrary...

Re: Ultrasonic Hull Shield

100% useless information without knowing where these systems are being used, how long they've been in use and what the state of fouling would be had the units not been installed.

I guess I don't...

Re: Beware of Martyr shaft anode fragility

Martyr simply standing by their return policy. Not only did the OP buy the anode in a foreign country, but he couldn't even produce a reciept. How far should Martyr bend over to replace a $10 anode?

Re: Beware of Martyr shaft anode fragility

I have installed many thousands of Martyr anodes over the last 30 years. I can count on two or three fingers the number of anodes that have broken like that during installation. You got a defective...

Re: Polite Beach Antifouling Question

Both of you are intentionally avoiding the question. The question is; in Maine, is it legal to careen on a public beach and prep and paint your hull? The links that GordMay provided do not address...

Re: Polite Beach Antifouling Question

I've been maintaining ablative paints for 30 years. I've yet to find one that doesn't need regular cleaning no matter how often or far the boat it's on is sailed. And like you said, you've never used...

Re: Polite Beach Antifouling Question

Ablative paints need cleaning every bit as often as any other kind of paint.
