Re: SOS Help Needed In Cuba For "Dancing Lions"

Hey Gandoka, please keep us updated when you get a chance. We'd like to stop worrying about Bill. Good move on the temporary fenders -- Cubans with sewing machines will gladly make amazing fender...

Re: Covid vaccination status for CF members

Absolutely right, Skipmac. FL resident. I believe I have already had it, but I couldn't get any kind of test while it was going on (early spring 2020; probably picked it up from a mainland Chinese...

Re: Looking to buy?

Eric, I had that size of Catalina for a few years, she was nicely dry and an OK size for a pocket cruiser and surprisingly good clearance belowdecks -- do check that you will be able to at least sit...

Re: Circle The Gulf of Mexico???

DB, we've done a lot of Bahamas (Abacos, Exumas, and down to the Caribbean); the FL West Coast down to Keys and Cuba sounds great -- we have been waiting to visit Cuba and I guess it's OK to do that...

Re: Advice for 3 weeks charter: Martinique or Bahamas

Getting to the actual Caribbean will be a lot nicer in January than sticking in the Bahamas. That said, flying into Nassau and heading south into the Exumas is VERY beautiful and protected cruising,...

Ever Heard of Catamaran losing its escape hatch in a seaway?

Hi, all. Some friends of ours, who own a 1993 Privilege 482-S Catamaran by Jeantot, recently went through a harrowing passage from Jamaica to the San Blas Islands -- wind NE 25 kts seas 8-12', on the...

Re: Completely Overwhelmed

Well, hey, this is still about boats, right?! :D

Having two engines is great when it comes to docking, but we were on the T dock next to a trawler with thrusters, and I just gotta say, they pulled...

Re: What Kind of Entertainment do you Have?

Add a Wirie to amplify the "free internet" signals that often don't reach where you might wish they did. There are alternatives to that, of course.

Re: How old is too old to sail long distance on a multihull?

Now, wait, they have to be Able Female College Students! Hand, Reef, Steer, and look good in a swimsuit, at the very least. Possibly must know CPR, too, if they look too good.:viking:

Re: Catamaran with layout suited for a family of five

Or if you already have the Gemini, you can forgo the hanging locker and turn the "downstairs" starboard bow compartment of the owner's stateroom into a separate berth by building a berth in the space...

Re: How old is too old to sail long distance on a multihull?

I think if you are over 90 you should probably have at least one other competent sailor aboard. Or whatever your health demands, earlier.

I find it a lot easier with two people to handle...

Re: Merged Threads: HMS Bounty

Thanks. Trying to get "around" this storm turned out to be a seriously bad idea. The footage suggested she had a pretty strong degree of heel on her (windage issue?) with no sails up. For those who...

Re: Do you use Nautical Terms or Plain Language?

Re: Crew Flying Into Bahamas -- Best Pickup?

Taxis to/from Georgetown airport are crazy expensive if you are staying at the anchorages in Elizabeth Harbour, unfortunately. Emerald Bay, closer to the airport and therefore a less costly taxi...

Re: How Important is it to Have a Stove With an Oven Gimballed?

We're using a Dickinson Marine Caribbean model stove with two burners and an oven. We also have a microwave, for use either briefly or when connected to shore power.

I'd keep the oven. It's really...

Re: Depressed and close to giving up

Driving a car is statistically more dangerous by far than cruising, yet you do not let the stats dissuade you from the good things that driving brings you. Same here. The stats are in your favor.

Re: Anyone upgraded from ZF10 or HBW100 to larger hurth/ZF?

We had 1200-plus hours on one engine and 1300-plus on the other when we bought our catamaran last year. We had to replace the starboard transmission first, and then the port side tranny thrust washer...
