Exclamation SOS Help Needed In Cuba For "Dancing Lions"

Hello everyone! Due to circumstances beyond our control, our boat has been under the care of the Cuban Naval Base located in Puerto Vita, Guardalavaca for almost a year. My partner Bill Pearson, has gone to the island to repair the boat and continue the interrupted voyage towards Costa Rica. We have discovered, upon inspecting the vessel, now moored at the nearby Marina Gaviota, that while in the fine care of Cuban authorities, some items have been "lost". All of our fenders are gone ( 4 out of five ) together with hundreds of feet of chain rope and windlass chain. So, without being able to throw a hook, the boat is pretty much stranded.

OUR REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE: Would anybody currently within access to chain and rope be so kind to bring what we need to the boat´s, and Bill´s location? (Im reaching out from Costa Rica) If so, PLEASE contact me ASAP by PM. Then I can give you more complete contact information.

We thank you in advance!

No, no, no. That was the “Nug” that Bill had his fight with and who commandeered DL. I’m ecstatic Bill made it to Cuba. Sorry I can’t help.

I also eagerly await the Dancing Lions sequel.

Nope, I'm the DL co-owner, based in Costa Rica. Internet, and communication to and from Cuba is very limited. E mail and WhatsApp, basically. So I serve as a relay between Bill and the rest of the world.

Bill is fabricating some fenders out of some old Lada tires he's scrounged up somewhere in Holguin. Cut them in half, some white paint, and done!

The anchor chain and rope is what's proving to be most difficult. Specially when the chain needs to be such that it will be taken by the windlass....but, Bill's a tenacious guy...Hoping for the best.

Well have you considered using a rope anchor rode to get you moving and adding chain when you get somewhere that it's feasible?

There are three threads related to this overall saga (This now makes the 4th). The other party was "CubaPirate".

In the last thread from Billpeerson, he is desperate to get to Cuba. Now it appears that he is IN Cuba.

I feel it is time to give this guy the benefit of the doubt and either help him or just at least not sniping at him.

I've sailed a few oceans on several different boats and have never carried chain except for 6-10' attached to the anchor. The rest is rope. So as Skipmac suggests, grab a 150' of rode until you get to your destination.
Good luck.

You probably already know. Putting a tire inside a plastic bag makes a good fender that will not leave black marks.

Re: SOS Help Needed In Cuba For "Dancing Lions"

Hey Gandoka, please keep us updated when you get a chance. We'd like to stop worrying about Bill. Good move on the temporary fenders -- Cubans with sewing machines will gladly make amazing fender covers for cheap -- these will outlast white paint and not leave paint on your hull... just choose something close to your hull color and durable as the fabric (not red unless you have a red hull!). Outlasts plastic bags in sunlight, too :-)

Hoping to hear some good news from Bill and DL through you!
