Re: Australian Nautical Mile Calculator

Another vote for the free Google Earth. It has a feature, shown as a ruler at the top of the screen, for which the units can be set to Nautical miles. Selecting "path" allows you to enter multiple...

Re: Raymarine S2G autopilot problem

I haven't tried recalibration yet but that will be the next thing to do. Although I'm still wondering what might have caused it to go wrong in the first place.

Raymarine S2G autopilot problem

I have a problem with my Raymarine S2G SmartPilot autopilot connected to an ST6002 controller. It has worked faultlessly for around 12 years but now veers about 20 degrees off course when first...

Re: Leaking raw water pump

I agree with others - this is a leak from the shaft seal. I have just rebuilt the raw water pump on my Yanmar 3GM30 - it is an easy enough job. The shaft seal cost ZAR190 (US$13) and the bearings, of...

Re: MANTUS MARINE GIVEAWAY - ends Nov 24, 2020

I could certainly make use of the Mantus Mini Scuba System. Every sailor should have one of these on board as it's ideal for checking the set of your Mantus M1 or M2 anchor or clearing lines from a...

Re: 34' boat with aft cabin

It may be a bit bigger than you want but the Lavranos Tosca 36 (built in Cape Town) has a very comfortable aft cabin containing a double and a single berth plus the usual V berth behind a door up...

Re: BRUNTONS PROPELLERS GIVEAWAY- ends Sept 9, 2019

I would really like to replace my fixed prop with a Brunton's Autoprop because it should improve thrust and help eliminate excessive prop walk going astern.

Re: Info on new yacht

Congratulations on the new acquisition. That's my boat in the background with the dark blue stackpack and spray dodger (Tallulah). Small world.

Re: Mystery hole in sail

I'd go with a light bulb in the boot/trunk too. I once had a hole burnt in a nylon suitcase while the boot lid was open for a few minutes and the interior light came on. Of course you don't notice it...

Re: Cape Town to Florida on 52' Grainger Cat

Re the moorings at St Helena: I was there in 2015 and they had a loop of line running through the eye in the middle of the large flat buoy. Get hold of this with the boat hook and attach a line to it...

Re: Too Old to sail?

A 73 year old has just come second in the Golden Globe Race, so I guess you are still quite young! Plenty of people sail considerable distances well into their seventies. Most of the time things...
