Re: Navigation on a Tablet Question

I work around the Puget Area and have found using Navionics on an iPad works well for me. Some places I've navigated with my iPad: to French Polynesia from Mexico, San Blas Islands to New York City...

Re: Wheel pulls to port—why??

I had this happen with a Caliber 40 and with that model it was a common problem. After extensive research requiring two libations, I learned the rudder was offset to allow removal of the prop shaft....

Re: Guitar players and musicians on board?

I carried a Fender acoustic and a Stratocaster for four years and other than occasionally rusting strings saw no appreciable negative effects even in the Sea of Cortez. I also had a small cube amp...

Re: Caribbean from Pacific Coast

My wife and I did that trip from Seattle with a “new to us” boat, (1986 Passport 40), without much experience and made it alive and well. What would I have done differently? Pick my weather windows...

My wife and I sailed from Seattle to NYC in 4.5 years. I’ve never had a bucket list but had I, so many of my experiences would have been on it. It was an incredible adventure.Just go.👍

Re: Planning Puget Sound to Mexico

Get a copy of “Pacific Coast Route Planning Map.” There’s a North portion and a south. I know the North shows three different options but haven’t seen the south. I’ve done all three and mostly 10-60...

Re: Cal 29 always turns to port

Don't know if it's true on your boat but I worked on a Caliber 40 one time that had the same issue. I discovered through research and talking with Caliber that the rudder was offset to allow removal...

Re: how do these keel bolts and thru hulls look to you?

I wouldn't just walk away. I would get an estimate for replacing keel bolts and through-hulls. Make an offer minus this cost, (based on his original asking price), and start the negotiation from...

Re: Why is initial product water from watermakers saline?

Millions of dollars have been spent studying how the semi-permeable membrane in your watermaker works. The pores of the membrane aren't truly small enough to act as a filter for sodium by themselves....

Re: Greater Seattle Area (Oregon and BC TOO!!) - NOOBS Looking for a Sail!!

I'll be giving free sails on a 63' gaff-rigged schooner named Lavengro on Saturday at the Boat Show. Sign up for the 10am, 11:30am, or 1pm sail. You probably won't be looking for a boat anything like...

I've stayed in all the marinas in that area. Marina La Cruz Nayarit is a good option and my best choice. There's a very nice village there with lots of entertainment and restaurants. The slip prices...

Re: You High-Tech Folks... how engrossed are you in your devices?

At one point a depth sounder was considered high-tech. Now in many, (if not most), circles it's a necessity for traveling boats. To some degree the same thing for VHF, GPS, AIS, radar, and plotter. I...

Re: my ST6001+ steers 30° to starboard when I hit Auto

Any chance some sort of metal object was placed near the compass? I was taking a boat to the Marquesas when the autopilot started misbehaving. It turned that one of the crew had placed a toolbox in...
