Inflatable dinghy floor is coming off

This is my brother-in-law’s inflatable. it’s a West Marine boat but I don’t know anything else about it. How do we fix this? (He says he already tried PVC glue and duct tape.)

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

It slides on tracks at the top and bottom. We may have to remove the whole door setup to get this repair done, so I hope the tracks are just screwed in, and not also glued or epoxied in. The table...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

We want to keep the sliding door mechanism and he likes having the separate rooms, so I think a full bulkhead is still the plan. I will look up videos and get a list of materials together.

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

I was worried about that. I found a YouTube of people whose boat had a similar setup - a wider port side bulkhead with a similar groove at the top; they were able to slide a bad bulkhead out without...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

Having looked up what it entails to make that conversaion, I think it’s safe to say that you’re right, we’re not going to that kind of trouble. Not for this boat; it’s already a big enough project as...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

The post doesn’t seem wobbly or weak at all; I sanded off the mold in three swipes and the wood underneath is clean and as hard as the wood at the top that had no water damage. No cracks or...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

I have said more than once that we will address the concerns that need addressing, and you still repeatedly tell me to have them addressed. That is, actually, patronizing.

You yourself said...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

The epoxy primer arrived a day ahead of schedule, but the can was damaged and had leaked all over the box. I had to email the company about a replacement but I don’t expect to hear back till morning....

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

Stu, do you know how patronizing you sound here? Every single thing you felt the need to remind me of, I have already addressed in this thread. If I didn’t care about the responsibility or safety, I...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

This is an option I may consider, since we have to be in there moving and replacing things anyway. How would I go about doing this?

The epoxy primer and fairing compound we ordered is expected to...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

Also pondering the feasibility and practicality of covering the entire new piece in a few layers of fiberglass before installing it. Is that even a realistic way to kind of waterproof the wood so it...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

I have a roll of craft paper available for a backup if needed. But I also want to see if I can take the rotted part out of the cabin in one piece without having to take the whole top off. If not,...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

I’ll take a closer look tomorrow (too short on time today, kids are home from school in 30 minutes) and see what connects where. I had planned to try to remove the rotted wood in one piece to use it...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

Spot, the box was the old water tank, which I think had never been replaced at all. It crumbled into pieces when Boyfriend removed it. Wikipedia tells me it was a 12-gallon tank so we’re going to...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

There aren’t plates in the upper corners; the photo with the mirror was from the other side of the same rotted piece (sitting in the V-berth) and I think those bolts in the ceiling above the light...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

There is a compression post, which looks to be in good shape. No chainplates attached to the walls. I saw a few photos of a PY23 without either wall; we could possibly remove it without replacing it,...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

Trimmed for length, but I tried to address most things.

Bottom paint: this is honestly very-last-phase cosmetic because we don’t like how it looks. Which is admittedly rather vain and doesn’t...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

If we can even get it on the water, we’re most likely to dry-sail for a while. We live an hour’s drive from the nearest marina (we’re kind of inland) and he doesn’t like the idea of having such an...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

He would, too. There really is no talking him out of it but I did at least convince him to take one big project at a time - if the major concerns can be addressed safely, great, we can do the...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

I have insisted that it will be inspected before it goes into any waterway, and he agrees on that. He wants to spend the time and money trying to fix it and there is no talking him out of that, but...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

Cosmetic stuff I can manage. Plenty of experience in making things look pretty. Structural stuff I prefer to leave to professionals.

“We’re keeping this boat,” he says, “even if it takes five...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

Well.

Project Boat is on hold while Boyfriend thinks over the options and weighs outside opinions. Don’t anybody hold your breath; he’s likely to take a while.

We shall see what comes of this....

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

As for the keel and centerboard, there is a lot of rust and a handful of barnacles, but it appears that the centerboard is still there. Boyfriend was given a rundown on how to raise and lower it, but...

Re: Seems we bought a Project Boat.

Okay, here’s what we have.

It looks like there is some water damage to the bottom of the post (not the top) but the wood on the post does not appear to be soft. The damage to the plywood starts...
