Re: Derelict boats

Chopped up and put into landfill, or so I was told. Eight boats 24' to 50' in my marina a week ago. Engines, tanks separated out for scrap.

Re: RIB vs Fibreglass vs Allum?

I am really interested in this thread. I had a fibreglass, purpose made catamaran thing that was heavy, almost too much to handle. Looking at the pt11 nesting dinghy with a lot of desire but no...

Re: Older, Quality Cats

I loved it but it was bloody big. The beam is right - I knew because finding a place to haul was an issue. Started life as a 42' and then PO extended is to add sugar scoops.
Never slammed because...

I had a Shuttleworth 45'. Open bridgedeck, 28' beam.

Costly refit but sailed like a dream

Anatomy of a general classified scam

Recently I was wanting to buy a wind vane here in the classified.
I made a post that I had sent the seller a pm.
Someone else sends me a gm that they can help me.
I don't think straight (blurry...

Re: Catamaran: Retractable Rudders

This is a good video about Shuttleworth rudder:
https://youtu.be/IBoMJFrZj4w

I don't know if this was his only solution, but it's pretty much what was on my 1988 boat. Buried in a transom...

Re: kos -santorini-crete-rodhos-kos

I think the above is spot on. Agree 100% that Cretans are the best people, especially on the south coast. My experience of Santorini two years ago was that tourism had ruined it, but the Caldera is a...

Re: MOB solo self rescue

I second that.
When I was learning my newly acquired boat, I took a very experienced skipper with me, for the first family trip across to the Gulf Stream to Bimini. I have some eclectic experience,...

Re: Where and how to haul a 31' beam trimaran for maintenance

Mine is 28' beam. Hauled her in Freeport Bahamas at Bradford Marine. Couple of places in Fort Lauderdale as well, but more complicated and expensive to do the work.

Re: Hello from British Columbia

Thanks for the extra pics, beautiful.

That's a lot of complication to set up a central heating system. Just for what it's worth, it triggered a memory of my old dad and a summer cottage in Sweden....

Re: Raymarine C70 screen black spots

Good luck. Again, my situation, but when I was evaluating exactly that same replacement thing, the choice turned into maybe $5k for a new shiny system, Vs a few hundred for making do. I made do.

Re: Single Men Living Aboard and Cruising... an honest look.

Alas, while she accepts my commitment to sailing, she is honest and equally committed to not do what doesn't float her boat. She will do little fair weather trips but the idea of long term cruising...

Just for what it's worth, I have an old C70 as well. I didn't have black spots but the resolution and general quality of the image was rubbish to the point of me thinking about chucking it. Was...

Re: Single Men Living Aboard and Cruising... an honest look.

I am with you there 100%. Knowing what you want, defining it in clear terms for yourself and the universe, is very much what I believe.

Having said that, it is also bizarre how the opposite, kind...

Re: Single Men Living Aboard and Cruising... an honest look.

Hmmm, as so often it turns into semantics and what things mean.

I took "fully self-aware" to a high and lofty place of being aware of myself, what drives me, values, beliefs, how and why I do the...

Re: Single Men Living Aboard and Cruising... an honest look.

I was just piqued by your "I need my man to be a fully self-aware and independently functioning adult. Now how hard can that be?"
