re: Goretex
It's not necessarily old hat but there are fabrics that work as good or better these days. I like Pertex for sleeping bags. |

Re: Is the Cruising Lifestyle Dying ?
The average age of the circumnavigator has been over 55 for a very long time. It has everything to do with money. |

Re: Needed: Recommendations for Folding Bicycles
Actually I believe they are fairly simple to ride. They work on heavy gyroscopic principles. Certainly way more stowable than a bicycle. |

Re: Where do I start?
Craigslist has some good finds and there are apps for your smartphone which will search every city. I search for things like bowsprit, gaffer, full keel, boomkin, bluewater, topsail and such. |

Re: What Makes a Boat "Bluewater" Capable?
He's also building 45,000# 60's with a 7 foot draft. You don't see too many 60-70 yachts with full keels anymore. It would cost a fortune. |

Re: What makes a boat "Bluewater" capable?
Like I said many here take it all back to the skipper. There are some things the skipper can't do like add to the ballast to weight ratio |

Re: What makes a boat "Bluewater" capable?
Sailors put a lot of stock in the "skipper" and rightly so; but this can be self ingratiating. How many 35,000# full keel boats have washed up or been found adrift in perfect condition long after the... |
