Be careful with buying Marsaudon TS42 / ORC 42

I am shocked about this report regarding the major quality and safety-issues with Marsaudon Composite catamarans.
Unfortunately it reveals major management issues which - until now - seem to get...

Re: Outboards are incredibly polluting - WOW

And Germanys electricity had a share of 30.2% coal power in 2021.
So, we can conclude that some people need to update their numbers.

Re: Outboards are incredibly polluting - WOW

As OP I can say - no, I a not an employee of an electric outboard company nor a seller of such products.
Instead, I care about conservation of the pristine waters we all love. However many of us...

Re: Outboards are incredibly polluting - WOW

That was not the statement of the original post. It is more about having a choice. Not about finger pointing.

Re: Outboards are incredibly polluting - WOW

I would not look at the turbidity of the water but at the black residue at the surface.... That can't result from some more bubbles...

Re: Outboards are incredibly polluting - WOW

You really think if you tried the same setup the result would be different?

Re: Outboards are incredibly polluting - WOW

For comparison with electricity from the grid or from the onboard diesel I we should look at two different aspects in order not to get this wrong

Regarding CO2 emissions,

the grid...

Outboards are incredibly polluting - WOW

See here how gasoline outboards pollute the pristine waters of your anchorage.

After 15 minutes of operation you see in these tanks the pollution from

a 2-stroke on the left,

a 4-stroke...

Big Mama, Tonga: The Pangaimotu Island Resort swept away

I am sad to read that the Big Mama (https://twoatsea.com/welcome-to-big-mamas-pangaimotu-tongatapu-tonga/) beach bar on Tongatapu/Tonga appears to have been swept away...

Re: Jimmy Cornell goes Electric, with a Cat

I wonder why OceanVolt has not sent their engineers. Their adjustable prop hydrogeneration is said to be excellent and should indeed deliver a lot more energy. (Torqeedo has no such sophisticated ...

Re: Mercury or Tohatsu outboard motor?

I have also very much enjoyed one of those handy outboards.
HOWEVER I would not go for it again!
Cruising through the pristine waters and reefs on this unique planet but using a two-stroke which...

Re: Hybrid Electric Cats?

see this thread:

It probably does not make sense to start one more.

Re: Oceanvolt Hybrid Motor

Hydro-generation is a feature you can have for hybrid systems and in all-electric systems. Oceanvolt is the best example. The same is valid e.g. for Torqeedo.

Re: Outremer 50 light early 2000s

I think so. The hulls var only in length. We have been very happy with the width of the hulls. They are narrow but in daily life this is completely ok.
Actually, I just remember there are I think...

Re: Outremer 50 light early 2000s

We have been cruising on a 50S for 3 years with two little kids.
Initially we planned to buy a 45 but there were no good offers on the market. So we considered another model. We decided to look at...

Re: Fridge Freezer 220v or 12v?

Surely top load is nice. However, if your fridges compressor and isolation are by far less efficient than those from a 2020 best efficiency household fridge, you will still need more energy with the...

Re: Fridge Freezer 220v or 12v?

Check out the threads in this forum about domestic fridges which are much, much more energy efficient then the expensive "marine" fridges.

These highly efficient residential fridges are all working greatly and they demonstrate how much carp is sold for lots of money, "labelled as energy efficient marine fridge".

Re: Spain, marinas, solar

Regarding solar, you will need around 1 kW peak, may be a bit more, assuming you have efficient electric equipment. So , besides LED light everywhere you need a very energy efficient fridge (there...

Re: Jimmy Cornell goes Electric, with a Cat

Sure, this might be the case.
However a Jimmy Cornell is probably not looking for high speed. For him, I guess, the "Performance"-Aspect is mostly interesting with respect to low drag at low speed...

Re: Jimmy Cornell goes Electric, with a Cat

Another point to consider regarding specific advantages of a cat for going electric is, that having two motors, you can also use the two motors for hydrogeneration. Hence there is the double...
