Re: Tea on Board

A tea lover here as well. My wife is Chinese, so she brings home tea bricks when ever she visits home. We break up the bricks into loose tea.
We mostly use this French press.

We mostly drink Pu-erh tea or green tea with red and white tea thrown here and there. Most important thing is to start with high quality tea.
Next, she will bring a proper tea table.
She drinks it straight with nothing added. Me extra sweet with sometimes lemon added

You know, the whole thing about tea.
They put it in these tiny/fancy/effete cups that don't even hold a decent swig, then hold the cup with a pinky finger sticking out and take tiny sips.
It's a way of keeping up appearances and acting civilized at anchor when you're surrounded by hooligans and various unworthies on the boats around you who just swill beer.

Ha! But brewing tea aboard is much easier than brewing beer! Hauling cases from supermarkets to the boat ain’t much fun and with the world going the way it is, may not even be feasible in the future.

I know because I just hauled 6 months of beer supply aboard. I also got a 6 month supply of tea, it was one single 1-pound bag

Re: Tea on Board

Tea is an evil substance. It is much more dangerous than beer.

I discovered this last night. I drank 15 beers up until 3 am in the pub, while my wife was just at home, drinking tea.

You should have seen how mad and violent she was, when I got home. She threw a chair at me, and kept screaming at the top of her lungs.
On the other hand, I was quiet and peaceful, and silently made my way to bed.
But, she kept cursing and shouting, throughout the night, and well into the next morning.

Please friends, if you can’t handle your tea, you should not be drinking it.
Please avoid drinking tea; and swill beer, instead.

I never saw anyone drink tea like that on a boat.

And enjoying good tea does not in any way contradict swilling a nice brew. Just preferably not at the same time.

Haha, I know, that's why I posted the emojis of big grins.
Couldn't help myself, it probably comes from watching all those English comedies/sit-coms on the Tele.

You have been living away from home for too long

I did ask the same question a while back and someone explained its a voltage thing in the US. In Europe 230v makes life easier to run small electric kettles. Spoke to a Canadian exchange officer and his wife the other day. They were delighted to be in the UK so they can use an electric kettle again after living in Japan (100v).

We drink lots of tea, perhaps 6 cups a day without even thinking about it. On board though, mugs go into the sink and the water is poured on from a kettle particularly when at sea. Yorkshire tea is our preferred easy to buy tea bag brand. The rest well, meh Yorkshire tea comes in a number of varieties so suit the local hard or soft water.

Re: Tea on Board

I was a heavy black tea drinker until I got my first kidney stone. I switched to coffee until my heart bypass, when coffee gave me palpatations. Now I drink green tea, and don't miss the coffee a bit.
