Propane

Hi, can anyone tell us if the small propane bottles are easy to buy on Indonesia, Thailand and such. have been told they are everywhere, they make a good option for us for an upstairs BBQ as they do work well and are cheap here in oz, sold as 220gram butane throwaway cartridges? Thanks

Re: Propane

You can purchase a gizmo that allows you to refill the small throwaway propane bottles that we use here in the U.S.A. Ours look like this.

Re: Propane

FWIW,

We have found that the butane vs propane issue is a non-issue. After many years of cycling back and forth between the two fuels (New Caledonia and Vanuatu tend to use butane, most other places that we go use propane) we have only noted that when using butane the flames are a bit different looking and they smoke very slightly. No big deal to us, anyway.

Cheers,

Jim

I would agree. propane tends to at slightly higher bottle pressures.

Our experience exactly. We have switched back and forth in the same containers for years. Our Eno stove states to change a pressure setting but we don't bother with changing it. Only result is very slight smoking with butane whereas the propane always burned cleanly.

As to the small containers being available in Indonesia thru Thailand, can't really say. Never saw any but also wasn't looking for them when we were there in 2009-early 2011.
