Re: Food preparation for long voyages without refridgeration

We used rectangle baking pans with wet cloths. Never really tried to keep them in the dark but they were always sprouted in a qtr berth with cloth over the top. There's a variety of different flavors so sampling before you stock up is a good idea.

Re: Food preparation for long voyages without refridgeration

grapefruit, oranges, limes, lemons, apples last pretty good, coconuts , cabbage, onions, garlic, potatoes, eggs, par boil for 8 seconds to help preserve. Mayonnaise but one has to use a sterile knife or spoon and not touch any food when put back for more, use another sterile spoon or knife. sprouts, alfalfa, lentil mung bean etc. are pretty fast. I lived aboard for 2years without ice or refer.. even warm beer and rum is good, lol.....

This is a little confusing.. are you saying all those items can be parboiled, or just the eggs?

(And I'll second you on the warm beer!)
