Re: Beer Cruising
Captain58...did you miss your tack and end up in the barnyard instead of the brewery?
Or was this code for beers:
Rooster? (Gallo, Guatemala)
Dog? (Double Dog IPA, Flying Dog Brewery)
Moose? (Moose Drool, Big Sky Brewery)

Re: Beer Cruising
I don't know, I thought he was offering me a chicken, which goes good on a BBQ with beer. I have old timers disease, I can hide my own Easter eggs.

Re: Beer Cruising
Ok... This is inland, but I've been working in Eugene OR. They have 3 breweries within a block of each other...

Re: Beer Cruising
We just returned from a Muskegon, Michigan to Houghton/Hancock, Michigan cruise. Michigan has encouraged craft brewers in the last few years. Seems there is at least one within a few blocks of every place we stopped. Marquette has three pretty good ones (Ore Dock & others). Grand Marais has Lake Superior Brewing - very good and Excellent bar food (photo). Also Grand Haven, Holland (3 or more) Manistee, Houghton, Munising. Grand Rapids has at least 12 but the river from Lake Michigan is not navigable no matter how much beer you've had.

Re: Beer Cruising
Good news for beer cruisers in Colombia.
Yesterday, I talked with the brewmaster here at Rana Dorada (yum) in Panama. He was also involved in starting up Bogota Beer Company in Colombia. There are now 22 locations in Bogota (Wow, I had no idea it was so big!). One in Cartagena....and a new location is planned in Santa Marta.

Re: Beer Cruising
Sampled brews at Bogota Beer Company (BBC) and Medellin Beer Factory today, both very good. BBC makes an excellent Porter.

Re: Beer Cruising
I read somewhere that Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) beer has been making a comeback because the Yippies had "rediscovered" it. So the other day I was somewhere that had a PBR special going. All I can say is that if I was thirsty enough and the PBR was REAL cold I might consider trying it again.
I wonder what other beers were in the tasting contest if PBR got a gold medal. Beer must have really been different in the 1800s

Re: Beer Cruising
PBR was popular with the PNW Hipsters a few years ago probably because it was cheap and rebellion against the growing microbrews that their parents were buying.
Of course they also buy their clothes at Goodwill... Just sayin (shrug)

Re: Beer Cruising
In many places in Central America it is common to find older lower grade USA beers like Pabst, Old Milwaulkee, Miller...I assume they good secondary markets here as they lost market share in the USA.

Isn't that the same strategy of European beers exported to the USA? (like Heineken, yuck.)
