IIRC that video has been circulating for a few years. Also I believe I read somewhere that it was done on purposes to collect on insurance. I may be wrong but nobody in their right mind would do something like that. I don't think it was a woman at the helm either but I could be wrong.

That's an awful statement. My 4"9' 100lb. wife does very well with our 46ft. cat.

"The little woman" jokes are way out of date, and weren't ever particularly accurate, especially in Ireland around "last Call" iirc.

It's a guy and no, it wasn't an insurance scam. The boat had just finished a lengthy resto and was out for this first time. They had gone aground and had just gotten loose when the (new to a tiller) owner panicked and turned across the ferry's path with bad results. This with TWO professional Captains aboard that he'd hired. The boat was sunk, re-floated and restored once again and is now for sale.

That's quite some panic. Lots to be said for learning to sail on an Optimist/Laser/Topper or similar with lots of other boats around... boats that bounce rather than crunch...

I think you may have a very good point there

I think that's the same vid I put in another thread. Looking at it again, given that boat's turn by their stern, even if she went to starboard, they may have clipped their port quarter against the other boat's bow (or side). The smaller boat should've made sure he had more "parallel" (best word I can think of to describe it ) separation beforehand.

That would be very game. I think there's a kid (or small person) on the bow. When I first saw the vid, I assumed that the crew either got seriously hurt or killed.

Well, if he was that poor a sailor, maybe it took two experienced Captains to keep him from screwing up Maybe should have been 3 to keep him from screwing up
