How stupid are some people?

This yacht just dropped their anchor and were lying 40 meters from this 52 meter super yacht. What were they thinking????

They have moved now, I'm guessing prompted by the super yacht crew.

I know the distance as I dusted off my range finder.

With a small wind direction change I doubt that the yacht would have the time to up anchor and get out of there. Maybe with 100m of chain they might be able to dump it all and reverse up.

Must be true.

The colregs police will have a field day as neither have the anchor ball day shape displayed.

I might put up my sails and sail straight into the superyacht and then sue them

Can't be a raftup; neither vessel has the jolly roger or the cocktail flag up. Not a plastic parrot in sight. Can the OP confirm that Jimmy Buffett music wasn't playing?

Perhaps they wanted to layup in the wind shadow for a few hours of calm. The longer one is on the water the more likely you are to be humored by another boater.

We have had this happen to us a couple of times were only 90 feet not the mega yacht in pic .People just are not thinking when they drop anchor maybe because big boats are not so common. Usually after an hour they sort of figure out the swing of our boat and move (98 % of them) .

But there is always one that doesn't clue in
We hale them on the radio asking them to move to a safe distance usually Coast Guard is listening, if the conversation goes on the Guard steps in.

If that doesn't do it you turn up the music and fire up your gennys just to let them know it will not be a quiet night.
if all else fails break out the shotguns and the skeet shooter .

Surely the tractor beam on the Super yacht would have locked on to the smaller vessel and moved it before a collision?
