Re: How High Can You Sail ?
Now that we're getting down to the less serious answers: Folks at Lake Dillon in Colorado sail really high, 9017 feet elevation. One of our home lakes is at an elevation of about 7100 feet.
Do remember, that in most USA jurisdictions you can be arrested or cited for sailing under the influence even if your blood alcohol concentration is below the presumptive limit. Fatigue and motion tend to multiply the effect of alcohol, opiates, etc.
Just out of curiosity, how many sailors can tack through 70 degrees (not counting shifts) and have also never ever run aground?

Just a bit of friendly competition with Daddle ... if the upload works.
Trouble was, despite tacking on the shifts, I was still tacking after sailing around 180 degrees! The wind gods are both kind and cruel.

That looks like a great day of sailing. Good work! And, yes, odd how the wind stays right on the nose all the way around.

I always thought pointing was rude! At least thats what my Mum said.
I can point quite high though, mostly at the moon or the stars.
Anyway gentlemen don't tack!

Re: How High Can You Sail ?
Move over, Dillon Lake: Page 134 of the July 2011 Latitude 38 says, in part:
"...a remote chartering enterprise that has its niche completely sewn up. Where? On Lake Titicaca, which... straddles the Peru-Bolivia border and, at 12,500 feet above sea level, is the highest navigable waterway on earth.
A company called InkaSailing Charters has built a modernistic lodge called Titilaka at the edge of this primeval body of water, and offers daysails on the 50-mile long lake aboard a Hunter 31 named Thaya. We're not making this up -- honest...."
So, you can sail really, really high -- on a Hunter, no less.
But will you need a hit from the oxygen bong?
