cat vs mono - current

we had interesting experience the other day when anchored in river in Yamba. It was rising tide, flowing towards west.

There was 45 to 50 ft mono west of us, looked plenty away, maybe 100 m. We had 40m of chain in.

Storm cells came with roll cloud and we got winds in estimated 40-50kn from west.

Our cat and mono turned 90 deg against wind facing south, beam on wind and current.

Now the interesting part.

Mono was pushed by the wind towards east.

Our cat was pushed by the current towards west !

Boats came basically to collision point. I was able to turn wheel so boat drifted towards north and we remained in this position until storm passed. i started one engine just in case.

Anyone else had this experience so this is expected behaviour to anticipate cat vs mono movement/dance in this particular conditions ?
