Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

So you guys are complaining that these guys are raising money to remove a wreck?

Last time I checked, that's called taking responsibility for your actions...

I don't know how many of you guys ever go out to... you know... the water... but there are plenty of derelicts out there that people just up and walk away from.

I ponied up $50, all you guys who bitch about derelicts clogging our waterways should be doing the same. Everybody makes mistakes, the true measure of a human is what they do to fix the problem they have found themselves in. Would it be nice if they could just go pull $10K out of their treasure chest, of course, but they cannot and they have found a way to make sure it gets done instead of just leaving it there for someone else to whack into later.

asking others to foot the bill to remove the wreck they caused hardly counts as taking responsibility for their actions.

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

As opposed to walking away?

Yes.

They are DOING SOMETHING.

If they could sell their helicopter or cash in all their confederate war bonds to raise the money then that would be lovely but they have limited means and have taken a path that will get the boat removed.

Again, good on them.

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

I still think many here are confusing the two different issues;

1. Yes, they made a mistake in attempting the difficult channel entrance in poor conditions. 2. BUT perhaps they thought the worst case consequence would be grounding in the sand. This is common. This is a reasonable assumption where they were...

Hitting something that breaks off the keel or severely holes the boat is unusual in sandy Florida.

With limited resources they are now doing the most feasible thing to raise enough money to meet their obligation to clear the channel. As of this moment they have raised, from volunteer donations, about $8K - enough to do this.

I think we should focus on exactly why this rare accident happened.
WAS it a case of severely corroded keel bolts? Was it a case of hitting something hard enough to pierce the hull?

In no way can this be compared with the recent Hawaiian duo's attempt at scamming the media.

I wish the locals would dive on the wreck and discover what broke.

You are a very wordy person, so... I challenge you to put your money where your mouth is and match my donation. Either that or just shut the hell up. (respectfully so) If you don't have the $50... go ask mommy for it. As for my $50, I worked for it.

Hmm well curiouser and curiouser then.... I suspect they actually have a 28 but got that photo off the internet because they weren’t sure what they had. I only say that because it is harder to imagine why that Morgan design would suffer that unless it hit a piece of submerged metal.

Re: Another Keel Lost; Another Capsize

From what I read, they ran hard aground, waves caused the boat to fill and eventually capsize. I saw nothing about a lost keel. Looking at the charts, it’s a very shallow and narrow channel.

It sounds like tough luck on a couple of newbies and my heart and best wishes go out to them.

Absolutely appalling. Nothing short of internet begging.

Says on their page "hit a submerged object" First time I've heard of the ocean floor referred to as an object.

This pretty much confirms my thoughts on a majority of Millennials.

Here we go again, bashing young people for wanting to be more than service working debt slaves. If you think "go fund me" is begging (incorrect thinking) I highly suggest you stay out of the CHURCH because thats all they do there too!

Crowdsourcing is an interesting phenomenon. In 24 hours they've solved their situation and most of their donators are out just a few venti lattes (which by most Americans waistlines they didn't really need anyways).

I still say its the 31 look at the square shape of the rudder. The 28 has the same basic shape of rudder our 29's do a large ellipse i.e. Round corners .

I call it as I see it.

Asking for money without offering anything is return is begging, pure and simple.

Funny thing is I have the same dream as they do. The big difference is that I have been a "working debt slave" for the past 38 years so that I can live my dream. I'm not there yet. but hopefully soon.
