Youtube video watching newbie alert!!

Hi There,

Probably the last thing you guys need is another, Delos, La Vaga, Uma, Ran, Zatara, and Abandon Comfort inspired dreamer, but here I am regardless!!

The last 6 months I've spent hooked on binge watching all of the above, and yup, you've guessed it, now I'm saving for a hole in the water into which I'll be throwing all of my money!

I'm an Medevac helicopter pilot from Ireland living by Lake Tahoe in California. Over the next 5-10 years, I'll be stalking y'all, learning the best way to throw all my money away. When I'm not up to my usual skiing and mountain biking, I'll probably learn to sail on the lake during that time since it's huge and gets lots of wind.

My hope is to spend at least a good 3 years circumnavigating and exploring. After that, I'm sure I'll know how best to proceed myself. I've found forums like this to be invaluable to newbies like myself. I benefited greatly from some of the aviation industry forums as a new pilot coming up the ranks, learning from the old crusty guys. I look forward to reading regularly, and perhaps posting occasionally(maybe even regularly after I actually start to know what the hell I'm talking about).

Thanks in advance,
Darren.

Cheers man and best of luck. I took a break from cruising and got my pilots license recently. Would love to try in a helicopter someday. Sailing is like flying only slower and more self-contained.

Thanks guys. It's official now, I'm now a member of a yacht club in Northern California, where I'll be getting some lessons and able to take out their boats on a lake. Let the learning begin!

Hi Darren,

You should also take a look at OCSC in Berkeley:

OCSC Sailing School

Great, active school/club that has professional staff to train you through offshore passagemaking plus an excellent club. Summer sailing on the Bay is terrific and challenging.

Lots of folks come for training from outside of the Bay Area. You can drive down from Tahoe and spend the night on one of their many boats.

They are offering a big year end discount on basic keelboat plus they have a lot of packages:

Last chance to save $500!
