YouTube video on shaft packing 5 " shaft

I ran across this short video on repacking a shaft log on a commercial vessel. . It's a bit different than what I'm used to.

I have packed 12 inchers while in the water.....very interesting to say the least

Chief, did you have to beat on the packing with a hammer? That's a neat trick that never occurred to me.

No.....The shaft collar pulled out...there were two longer studs....the nuts stayed on those......put a ring in tighten........back off put ring in tighten.......etcetera etcetera etcetera........you never take the two JESUS NUTS OFF
