They say we're crazy!

Hello from Florida!

My husband and I are planning on buying a power boat and living aboard at a nearby marina. We are in our late 50's. Our friends and kids think we're crazy. We know it won't be easy, but we want to give it a try. We figure we will commit to a year.

Hoping to fine some answers through this forum.

As a fellow liveaboard....I look ashore and see living on land as crazy.
But seriously, your family and friends will always think different is crazy...that's how they are conditioned. Just ignore them politely.

Yup! Just smile and nod! Do not explain or defend.
There is so much for you to look forward to. Just think, you can decline all ticky tacky your relatives may give as gifts...no room!

Re: They say we're crazy!

Thelmalou222, Welcome to the community. There's nothing crazy about living aboard a boat for those that have adapted and there are many advantages. What is your general location in Florida? We've been in slips or anchorages at most Florida areas over the years. Keep us posted of your adventures!

Re: They say we're crazy!

Asylum indeed! There are pros and cons to living aboard of course. Lots of satisfaction and fun too. Your neighbors are usually far friendlier than those in a suburban block. The forum is a good source. Enjoy.

The Amazing Sharon and I just finished dinner in the cockpit. People who do not live like this are the crazy ones

Re: They say we're crazy!

Thelmalou,

Welcome aboard Cruisers Forum. You have a great attitude. Most people feel threatened by what you are planning to do, so they sort of want to stop you. Obviously you and your good man get to make your own decisions, and this one should give you lots of pleasure, and if it doesn't suit, you'll move on.

Only thing is, liveaboard slips can be hard to come by, so might check if your marina has liveaboard vacancies. Generally, this is best done by going there and chatting to them, as they want to see you first.

Ann

Re: They say we're crazy!

It's not readily convinced on others just try it. It will take a year to get "in the groove" though.

Re: They say we're crazy!

We haven't moved aboard yet, that is next year after the kid starts school, but the more I think about it, ones that are nuts are the ones that don't.
I won't miss mowing grass, raking pine straw, picking up pine cones, trimming hedges, paying a water bill, sewage bill, property taxes, garbage bill, work and everything related to that and all kinds of other normal ordinary things your supposed to do.

Way I figure it is the only way to win the rat race, is not to compete.
