New Member Intro

Hello! The time has come to give up work and get afloat; 28 years in the Gulf with only 2 weeks bareboating each year in the med for the last 15 years and I desperately want to 'Sail the Dream' before I become too decrepit. I'll be nagging everyone for advice and recommendations over the next 6 months or more, my apologies in advance!

WELCOME aboard, Halcyon!
No need to apologize, except for questions unasked.
Happy cruising!

Thanks. Currently in Bahrain; I've been 'dreamer' for years, need to get real soon as 55 already.Plan 'A' is to buy a 'budget' boat around 35' and get 6 months in the Med as a shakedown, then cross the pond preferably to the Carribean either in the same boat or one more suitable for longer passages. Currently studying books like 'Sell up and Sail'.

Are you active in the sailing fraternity in Bahrain? I have recently joined the forum, am in Saudi (Riyadh) and have similar aspirations to yours! I wish to get acqainted with sailors in and around Bahrain as I am thinking of joining the Bahrain Yacht Club, probably get a boat and start sailing from there.

How's the "Sellup & Sailing" coming along?

We visited Bahrain when I worked in Saudi Arabia. It's shallow water sailing in your neck of the woods.

If I ever went back to work in the Middle East, I think I would go to Dubai. There's enough sand and sea there to last a life time.

After we worked in Arabia for eleven years, we purchased a catamaran and sailed around the world. I was 47 years old at the time when we set sail. You are still young. You have plenty of time to have a great adventure.

Good luck on your sailing dreams.
