I'm in love

Hi there! For the past 2+ years I've dreamt about sailing. Browsed classified ads, read forums and blogs, and in general just been fascinated with it. I was waiting for the right time and the right boat, when I noticed a boat online for sail right around the corner from me. Went and looked at it, and all of a sudden, I'm a boat owner. Teaching myself to sail and today went out for about 4 hours. Was SO good to shut off the engine and enjoy the peace and quiet. Pretty addicting. So much to do, so much to learn.

Just wanted to say hi.

Re: I'm in love

You've got a lot to learn about posting boat porn.

Welcome to the forum, anyway.

Sorry for my poor boat porn.

It's a 30' O'day 302 from 1987. She resides in Cocoa Beach, FL and will cruise the Banana River and ICW until she feels ready to tackle the Gulf Stream :P

Welcome aboard Moonpie, may your love affair enjoy fair winds and good tides. Sounds like a first love and they are always great

As for rear end shots - maybe good for general porn but as others have posted, not so good for the boatie stuff - unless it is something very special; and with the deepest respect to your new love, profile will be much better.

Re: I'm in love

Erm, you say you've spent 25 years dreaming about sailing? Hate to nag, but have you ever actually been sailing? Cos if not, there's a lot that you need to know that you don't know, and don't know you don't know...

Clearly you're gonna learn the hands on way, but pleeeease, at least take a theory course, or read a book about navigation, lights, rights of way etc...

Erm... he says "for the past 2+ years dreaming etc" - at least as far as I can tell

As for the other stuff to know, well, he has access to the world's greatest learning resource - you know the one; yep that's right, it's the one you moderate

Oh yeah. SO much to learn. My fiancé and I are going to sailing school, for sure. And it's only been 2 years, not 25! Geez, I'd hate to think of dreaming for 25 years!!! As for all the theory, rules of the road etc, I spent 8 years in the Navy doing navigation, radar ops, comms etc so I have a very good knowledge of that type of stuff. It's the actual rope slinging stuff that I'm learning these days

Hmmm - now I'm gonna spend the rest of the day fretting about whether it's my eyesight not working or my brain. Probably the latter...

That's a relief!! Just remember - NEVER, not EVER, wrap a sheet around your hand.

Thanks for the tip. I don't quite understand, but I wonder if I've been doing this. When I pull in my roller furling I sometimes wrap the rope around my hand. Seems like a bad idea. Is this what you're talking about?
