Allow me to introduce myself...

Hello all...I am new to the boards, and my main reason for joining (and I hope you won't mind) is to get advice on a sewing machine. I do love sailing though, but am a total novice.

As for the sewing machine...I picked this forum because I feel sewing a sail is most similar to the types of fabric I will be sewing. By the way, I have never used a sewing machine! Yes, I know. I can learn and am not afraid of buying a machine before I learn.

I will be sewing multiple layers of material (do I need a walking foot?) I would rather buy an older, well made model off Craigslist or Ebay than something new that is likely made in China.

Please feel free to direct me to any previous posts on the subject of picking a machine also. Or, if you feel my interests would be better served on a different forum, I understand completely.

Thanks.

Welcome aboard! (I don't know much about sewing, but I think you need a heavy duty sewing machine designed for sailmaking...you're normal Singer probably won't do. I'm sure someone on this forum has more insight.)
