A H36, but it is really 35 feet. Feels much larger though. Perfect size for just my wife and I as long as you get the one with the larger aft cabin. The twin cabin version would be terrible for us, and you would lose that huge storage space.

Furling main, yes, and it's my first time with one. I would have preferred a traditional main actually, but I'm trying this, they must be popular for a reason! I'm kind of worried though - what if something happens, I'm in a storm, and the main is stuck and won't furl back in? Then what do people do??

Hunters are good boats in my humble opinion, yes, a production boat but so what, I drive a Ford pick-up truck rather than a Ferrari and happy to do so.

If I did purchase the HR, I was going to swap out the teak deck for fake teak once it's lifespan was up.

The HR36 isn't quite the blue water boat I would want. It makes great use of it's interior space, but that also means that storage is very limited. Where would you put a spinnaker? I guess you would have to keep it in one of the cabins. I couldn't even figure out where I would put all the fenders honestly. Also the deck stepped mast personally makes me nervous but HR has a good record so I'm sure the mast is as solid as can be.

Congrats on the new boat! We have a 356 (precursor to the 36) and after three seasons going to the Bahamas, remain convinced it's the perfect boat for us. I had the same concerns about the furling main, but you'll find if you follow Selden's instructions for furling and unfurling, jamming isn't an issue. I once had it jam unfurling, but that was due to my ignorance about correct furling (only on starboard tack and tension on outhaul to ensure a tight furl). We also furl early to avoid the stress of something jamming when in limited space.

Enjoy the boat. We've had a 2005 H38 since new and it's a great coastal cruiser. Standard alternator sucks though. We've added a big Balmar, external regulator and more recently solar. Now it's an easy anchor out for several days.
