Hello
Hi,
Been a lurker and reader for a long time. I think these forums are excellent and learnt lots. Log in most days.
Bought myself a Shuttleworth 45' catamaran. Started life in 1988 as a 42 Spectrum known as Hunky Dory, then The Beast, and now LION 1. Lived most of her life in Fort Lauderdale.
Done a brutal (for my wallet) refit. New rigging, sails, paint job, electrics, plumbing, outboards etc etc.
Taken her out to Bahamas and the Keys. Everything that I was hoping she would be.
All good,
Dan

Re: Hello
Hi Dan and welcome to the (active participation) forum.
So if I understand correctly, your boat was built as a 42' Spectrum, then it somehow transformed into a longer boat made by a different builder?

Re: Hello
No, started life as a Spectrum 42, designed by John Shuttleworth. Got extended by 3' at some juncture and is now a 45' Spectrum. There weren't too many made, mine is nr3.

Re: Hello
Beautiful boat, Dan. Looks like she is a really good sailor. I can understand how and why you spent the $'s on an update. Sails have nice shape as well. Are those GPL Lite Skin sailcloth?

Re: Hello
Yeah, she is nice. Got the sails from Dave Calvert. Main and jib in carbon, different lighter-weight screecher (4.5 oz. laminate with technora fibers and a light taffeta on one side). Got incredibly technical with skins and taffeta etc so in the end I went for something that would hold its shape, be light weight, give me seven plus years
