Re: Dos and Don'ts ?

The absolute Best Advice I can give you being fairly new and have found this to save me repairs, and injury, is

If you even THINK about "should I do this or that?" such as furl a sail, put on my weather gear">foul weather gear, / jackline, life jacket,,, check a fitting etc etc, Then You Should DO IT!.
The other thing is I have yet to find any local weather reports that are even marginaly accurrate. Be your own weather man ( or woman) If its cloudy and you think it will rain, It will Rain and it will Blow,

Fl keeps getting hit by bad squalls and "No name " storms and the weather centers are clueless.

And last but most important, if your partner is not happy, you are not happy.

Fair Winds,
S/V Happy Ending

Re: Dos and Don'ts ?

do check very carefully deck fittings when filling tanks .
ie diesel goes in the one that says diesel!!!,,and water in the one that says water, though not allways on homebuilt boats!!!!!!!

Re: Dos and Don'ts ?

do not store gasoline, acetone, alchohol thinner below decks, apart from it being very explosive if it leaks in the engine compartment it can cause the diesel engine to race and destroy itself!!!

Re: Dos and Don'ts ?

There are only two rules to follow in sailing:

1. Always pick up your fenders after leaving the dock.

2. Never fly the Jolly Roger.

The rest is just commentary.

Re: Dos and Don'ts ?

The two rules in sailing are

1) the captain is always right

2) when the captain is wrong refer to rule number 1

Oh, and this one:
