I've just signed up and if you remember when you first did theres a note on every screen telling you to post an intro message or your computer will blow up, the keel will fall off, and the tax inspector with tap on your hull.

Can you guess by my humour (or lack of it, plus spelling) that I'm Australian?
As a German guy said who met me in a bar in Marmaris, Turkey "teach me to sail". I asked him how he knew I could sail. He said all Australians can sail.
Funny, that. Because it was an old German sea dog that taught me when I gave up harbour sailing and first went off shore when I was about 18.

My only problem is I don't have a boat. But this will change early next year.

On joining this group I hope that it is the happy place it appears. And why shouldn't it, for sailing is not like whacking lids on jam jars in a factory, its about us living close to, and with nature. As an old skipper told me: You only ever know someone when you've sailed with them.

By the way, I saw another new member post from Michigan, with a reply from Muskegan. Small world. I took a boat from Muskegan through the Great Lakes to Nova Scottia. Thats a great cruise! Must get back there some time to see the ice sailing in winter and the fishing in little huts on the lake with holes cut in the ice.

We never tap so that would be the real tax inspector. Careful where you set your hook. Some of them actually sail!

Hi, Mark! I'm the Michigan n00b. When you were in Muskegon you were only about 30 miles north of our home port at Holland Harbor. The lakes aren't frozen over yet, but we had our first significant snowfall, about 5 inches, last night.

We spent our boatless years crewing on Lightnings. I hope you are able to do something like this to get on the water before you buy your boat.

Yes, this arvo. I was walking from the photo copy shop to the council (doing a DA to fix the house up so we can rent it out and go...) when right above my scone the biggest flash of lightning and loudest thunder levitated me about 6 feet in the air.

I have been at sea in a few thunderstorms but I don't want to think the science of getting hit by lightning on a boat. Does it kill barnacles?

..Yep flash floods. Flew back home from Bris last night, and it was way hotter and more humid in Melb. Sleeping on my nearly finished new boat (in a paddock) so I opened up all hatches to cool it down ....woke up in the early hours to rain pouring in on me...A lot of very active storms this arvo...(roof cave ins and road closures).... The dog population goes nuts around here at this time of year, thunder as well as bird scare cannons, topped off with the almighty booms of hail cannons. Sounds like a war zone.
