Any Nimrod Owners?

Just joined the group and am looking forward to getting to know everyone. Purchased a 1969 Westerly Nimrod last week and I'm sure I will have some questions for the group. I hope to provide input to other questions as well.

Any Nimrod owners out there?

Re: Any Nimrod Owners?

No, found the Nimrod on US Craigslist a couple weeks ago (lots of other Nimrods there too )

I've reserached to see why anyone would name a boat Nimrod other than to make sure my friends and insurance agent had a good laugh. Found two: Noah's great grandson from the bible, and name of the first boat to explore the south pole. Anyone know the real story?

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Re: Any Nimrod Owners?

Here's a pic of mine----needs some TLC (and a new starter winder for the outboard---discovered the hard way last Sunday). Otherwise great little boat.

Re: Any Nimrod Owners?

I see this is an old thread but I really like this as a learning/fishing boat. I like the westerly boats all round so I am drawn to this one in north of ireland I have been thinking about,

https://yachts.apolloduck.com/boat/w...-nimrod/584092

comes with a trailer for 1600 BP. it seems reasonable except I would have to trailer it back to Portugal or only use it when I am in Ireland which is not ideal for what I wanted.

Are there any similar boats like the nimrod I should be searching for? the closed cabin is important as I want to sleep in it when I do weekends on some inland lakes.
Prices in Portugal for boats seems high to me for small boats or just not listed online so I am considering buying elsewhere and bring it to Portugal.

I have been looking at some marinas but just starting so I guess time will tell

Still thinking about where to register as well I can do Ireland or Portugal.

Any suggestions or advice appreciated. I am new on the forum so I am combing to find threads.
