Wink Aloha from SV Halekai

John and Kristiina from Kauai, HI.

We recently purchased our first sail boat, a C&C Landfall 48 as we like to start small and go from there. LOL.
You would think that buying a boat would be a simple process and it should be. Ours, not so much. It started out to be a normal purchase. You look at several of them, find the one you like, do the normal paperwork and inspections, close the deal.

We were on vacation in February, saw the boat, came home, made the offer, paid the deposit. Enter COVID, lock down all travel. Start the longest boat sale in history. I was finally able to return and complete the deal in Sept.
The deal is done and we are the owners of Halekai (Hawaiian for house on the sea).
Kristiina has more sailing time than I do. She grew up sailing with her family and both of us crew on a 30ft Olson at our local yacht club where I am the Rear Commodore. (Nawiliwili Yacht club).
Most of my boating experience has been with power boats.
As a boat Captain and Scuba Instructor, I spend a lot of time on and in the water around the island. I have been a ocean lover all my life. Kristiina loves wind and waves and camping and found boating to be a perfect combo of all those. She also likes fixing things and problem solving .

I am looking forward to retirement, cruising the world aboard our newly acquired full time job ... boat

Your O30 experience in those Kauai swells will stand you in good stead as you voyage afar. I don't think you will be surfing Halekai quite so much. Love your home island, enjoyed sailing there one July.

Re: Aloha from SV Halekai

I think it will be very useful in the future. I also captain for a local dive charter company full time so I get lots of time with swells and rough seas.
Thanks for the reply.
