Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

daw--sounds like an effective plan.
downsizing is a drag--too many corporations have done that leaving many out of work.
is good to be positive.

We were about out of the channel, far enough to see the lake, when the Michigan lake cops were on their way in.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

Hi All,
Capt. Mike57's first post to any thread on the CF site.
Starting the long sail trip in May from Lake Champlain when the canals open. It's been a dream turned idea, turned plan over the last few years.
Starting out by myself at this stage but looking for a sail mate to join.

I don't want to speak for the poster and I only know you from your posts. But my definition for a sail mate would be "zeehag". And I mean that in nothing but a flattering way. Women that truly enjoy sailing are rare and those with an independent nature and confidence, even rarer. Am I wrong?

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

New to this site, new to sailing, and ripe for an adventure. Will be getting under sail within two years (strict goal) with my black lab, Jet, starting in the Caribbean and then onward towards the rest of my life. Just graduated college, looking for a woman who might want to share the adventure. Being two years out from sailing, I'm not expecting to find my soulmate right off the bat nor even anytime soon, but it can't hurt to have friends once I do get under sail.
Thanks y'all, Grady

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

I just graduated from college and have been interviewing and saving every dime I can. I figure I should be able to save enough for a boat and a few months of living expenses in that two years time, depending on how life goes.
My goal is to see the world, meet people, and find happiness. I'd love to experience other cultures and people and see how they live, and I don't mean staying in the poshest marinas and eating at the finest restaurants. I live frugally and really don't have any care for "things". I want a boat thats reasonably comfortable (I'm 6'7, or just over 2 meters, so size is an issue) and thats about it. I don't want all the bells and whistles outside of those that are necessary for safety and a reasonable level of comfort. I'm a durable 23 year old, I can handle anything. Plus, 23 year olds generally go through a self discovery phase anyway right?? Hahaha.
Ultimately, I want to escape monotony and go explore the world while I can. I'm physically capable of achieving this dream, a dream I've had for years, I'm determined to slowly yet surely start piecing together the dream, and I'm ready to make the life that I want to live.
That's me, I hope y'all didn't get lost in the ramblings.
Otherwise I'm just a nice young guy landlocked in Oklahoma. I enjoy being outside, exercising, cooking, and learning new things every day. Probably a little different than the average 23 year old, with different ambitions and goals than my friends who have careers and are settling down, but different is good.
I've got lots of time before I set sail, but I will follow through without a doubt. I'm not going to let life get in the way and disallow me from chasing my dreams, a fate many other dreamers have suffered from. Life should be lived, so I'm going to live it and find happiness along the way.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

when i was 23 i did not yet know that happiness is something we cannot find unless we look inward. we carry that in our innards, and fail to see that until later in life.
23 is a great adventure time.
you should have a great enjoyment of being able to split from routine and get out of dodge for a bit of time at that young age and with a strong and durable physiology.
when i was 23 i wanted to travel the planet. instead i made some bad choices ha h ah ah aha

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

there is a difference between sail mate and soul mate. can you seeking SAIL mates explain this difference.
this needs to be defined for the members not seeking SAIL mates but SOUL mates, as described in mission statement of this group.....

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

Along the line of dating services, a male acquaintance told us the following story about when he was newly single.

He joined the service, and he screened out all the women who didn't mention sailing. Eventually, he found one who had listed sailing in her hobbies. Whoooweee!

A racing sailor himself, he quickly got her racing berths on OPB's. Now, she's trained up, and they have bought a boat to sail and cruise locally. The overall plan, is when there's enough money saved up, they will buy another boat and go cruising. Meantime, they're pretty pleased with themselves.

He did say he had to be ruthless about the screening.
