More than I can say for most men.

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

As I continue to shop and look at many boats on the usual online sources I find that there are an abundance of yachts for sale and the owners seem to be proudly showing pictures of ancient electronics systems. I don't get it, close up pictures of 1980's vintage weather fax. Or radar with 4" monochrome screens. They might as well show pictures of vacuum tubes or Phoenician Oars.

Do not highlite that you never updated electronic systems and then tell me its ready for a RTW.

Many prospects have no clue.

Just proof there is **something** there, better than nothing, if the other boat has nothing. . .

Maybe enough to get you going close to shore, building out for RTW will cost mayb 10x the purchase price anyway, meantime at least they're going to be learning to sail.

At least they are being honest, even if by default, so you know to not pursue this further.

I think one could view this two ways depending upon your desires. Maybe you want to install a brand new suite of electronics and don’t want to pay for a recently upgraded system you will trash anyway.

Having just finished a year of boat shopping, this drove me nuts too. Not just out-of-date either. Even with newer equipment, I don't need a close up of every gauge on the boat. But a couple pictures of the engine(s) would be nice!

I have a very experienced broker (who I think frequents this site) tell me that Yachtworld listings with a small number of pictures generate more good leads than listings with a large number of pictures. I think I see why now.

Judging from the responses I realize that I should have included another line to my thinking. I don't expect a new suite of electronics on a used yacht, but I am dumbfounded why they think these antiques are a selling point and worthy of a detailed close-up picture. I really think that every picture has marketing value and this is indicator of the general maintenance and condition of the yacht and even the owner's reality. Don't highlite what you did not maintain! To a viewer half way across the country or world, its an indicator of the maintenance of the engine, the rig, the hull, the plumbing and other systems. And if its coupled with the statement that the yacht is blue-water ready to sail to world, then that's even worse.

Every picture has tremendous value to get to a buyers shortlist. Just like all the pictures above of trashy interiors, crap spilling out of cabinets, rusty deck stains, rotten woodwork, mold and clogged toilets.

Again, many prospects have no clue.

They say the Nigerian Prince scammers put bad grammar and misspellings up front and center completely on purpose.

Weeds out the intelligent recipients from the beginning so they don't waste their time.

Only want to deal with the more stupid, easier marks.

Same principle.

Depending upon the blood work results and I dont make it through the next operation, maybe you can buy it cheap from my estate.

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

Have to say that pics that have removable stuff all over, or of items (like Cookers and Heads) that they couldn't be Arsed to clean is a great put off for us. If they couldn't be bothered to clean say the cooker to sell the boat what else couldn't they be bothered with? Maintaining the engine, Sea cocks or other necessary items, i'd run a mile in the opposite direction. It's one thing for items be used and a little worn even but to not present it as clean as you can is a big no no.
